Adam and Amanda met me at the Dallas Arboretum a couple of weeks ago for their engagement session. The cold weather started to ‘conveniently’ show up that day but Adam and Amanda were troopers and willing to stick it out for some fun and awesome engagement pictures. Before we started shooting we had a moment to sit and chat and get to know each other a little better, one of the most interesting things that stuck in my mind was the way that they met. In college they both met while they had a part-time job at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Lubbock, TX. Now when thinking about places to pick up girls, Lowe’s really doesn’t really rank high on my list of potential place. But it sure worked for Adam, so all you single guys out there, keep a look out for the ladies working and shopping at Lowe’s, who knows you could meet your future spouse! Thank you Adam and Amanda for a great session, it was a pleasure getting to know you a little more! Enjoy.

On December 12,2009 I along with 15,000+ other photographers around the world had the privilege in serving with Help Portrait. The idea behind Help Portrait is simple, find someone in need, take their picture, deliver that picture. It is all about finding those people that usually don’t get the chance to be served, and serving them. What a powerful and wonderful idea.

When I first heard about this I knew I wanted to do it but I knew I couldn’t pull something like this off on my own, then one day on twitter Ben and Chrys Q mentioned that they wanted to start this event in Dallas, so we teamed up and started the planning process. I recruited Deanie Yuska from Deanie Michelle Events to help us find a location. She worked so hard calling places and the Help Portrait Day was getting closer and closer but we still had not found a location, until December 10. So we had the location and 3 volunteers with only one day to round people up. Thanks to the power of the internet and wonderful social networking sites like twitter and facebook we were able to round up an amazing team of individuals. Don & Emily Mamone, John Harris, Catie Ronquillo, and Crystal Morrison are the amazing photographers we were able to round up. Kristin Brown from Glamorous Newlywed was able to provide all the ladies with make-up and hair styling. Craig Peters of TSS Photography provided us with the photo printer so families could walk away with a photos that day. Then there is my wonderful wife Jessica who took it a step further and made sure everyone had plenty to eat, with only a days notice she was able to round up 5 lasagnas, salad, bread, cookies, and drinks! Last but not least I would love to give a huge THANK YOU to Connie Boyd-Executive Director of Family Gateway and Susan McWilliams-Development Officer of Family Gateway for opening up their doors and allowing us to work with them and provide these families with portraits.

Here is a little recap video from our time together! Enjoy.

I had a contest for the Jared Rey Fan Page on facebook once I reached 400 fans. I had a list of questions and people had to find the answers from my old blog, this blog, and a little bit of google searching. I thought I had some pretty tough questions and that it would take people a little while to get all the answers and answer them all correctly, but little did I know I had my first response under 30 minutes and all the answers were right! Courtney Auten was the winner of a free session and she used it for a little holiday session with her boy Nathan. Congrats on winning the contest Courtney! I will have another contest or giveaway once my fan page reaches 500 fans, so make sure you go and join if you haven’t already and go tell your friends to join while you are at it! Enjoy.
